It turns out this trip wasn't a waste of time after all! I don't know how, but in all of the sensor data I was relaying to the captain, I somehow forgot about the "storage unit" under the water's surface. We kept the ship hovering in place over the structure, then dove into the water and under the small structure. On the underside we found an air cavity and entrance. Turns out it was a combo gold mine and death trap which we should have known since it was floating in place using some precursor tech. Fortunately the only deaths before we were able to get HK to shut down the electrocution grid were some of the merfolk and quite nearly Kenth. Once inside, the structure was devoid of anything interesting. I mean except for the crates of weapons! So many weapons! We were able to get them all loaded up into the ship just in time for the tidal wave to hit.
Fortunately, we were safe inside during the tidal wave, no thanks to HK. He must have thought abandoning us promptly would serve us most efficiently. Still, we didn't hold a grudge because we were distracted from the betrayal by something very interesting. The water had completely receded, revealing a huge dome directly below. And then it began to open. Obviously there was an even larger and more dangerous death trap down below, but what other option did we have but to get back in the ship and fly down? Right. None.
Once we're inside, we find more precursor tech which communicates with the moon along with modern updates to the structure. Now we have a pretty empty facility in which to plan our defense of the imminent incursion by the actual owners. It's going to be exciting. I hope to live through it to talk about it.
